Taking strides towards sustainability in the automotive industry

Two newly developed GENESTAR™ PA9T variants are special highlights at the Kuraray stand at Fakuma 2024: GENESTAR™ GC1201A and GENESTAR™ N1005A. The two new grades support the megatrend towards greater sustainability in the automotive industry.

Kuraray's robust, long-chain, high-performance polyphthalamides have long proven their worth in demanding applications. The various GENESTAR™ PA9T grades always provide added value during the development of a lightweight but robust component. GENESTAR™ PA9T withstands high chemical, mechanical and thermal stress in multiple applications such as cooling systems, actuators or electronic components.

The wear-resistant GENESTAR™ N1005A: Lightweight and robust plastic gears without PFAS

The new GENESTAR™ grade N1005A impresses with outstanding wear resistance and a low coefficient of friction. But its real claim to fame is that N1005A achieves these properties without fluorine atoms. It even works better than materials containing Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). As per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) will probably all be banned in the EU sooner or later, OEMs and suppliers are already looking for alternatives.

With N1005A, Kuraray has now developed a PFAS-free GENESTAR™ grade that meets precisely this need. It combines dimensional stability, low noise-vibration-harshness behaviour and wear resistance at elevated temperatures, which are essential for bearings or gears – in a high-performance polymer without fluorine!

The conductive GENESTAR™ GC1201A: Battery immersion cooling systems

Battery immersion cooling is a major innovation in battery technology for electric vehicles, partly because of its fast-charging capability: charging processes now only take minutes. Immersion-cooled lithium-ion batteries are completely surrounded by a dielectric coolant, usually an oil, and are therefore cooled very effectively.

The newly developed cooling systems manage the balancing act: on the one hand they allow more efficient thermal management, on the other hand they enable space savings. This is made possible by the newly developed GENESTAR™ GC1201A. This new GENESTAR™ grade is not only particularly robust, with low water absorption and permeation, high dimensional stability and very good heat resistance – it is also conductive!

Kuraray at the Fakuma from 17-21 October 2024

Anyone interested in finding out more about these two GENESTAR™ grades and a range of other innovations is cordially invited to visit the Kuraray stand at Fakuma in Friedrichshafen: Hall B4, Stand B4-4403.

The Kuraray specialists look forward to advising trade fair visitors on the ideal Kuraray polymer!
